Just in time?

As an MBA applicant, your project management skills are probably rather strong. You are likely familiar with driving projects past the finish line on time and under budget. If you have yet to embark on the MBA application process you may not realize that you will have to apply a strict project management perspective and framework to the MBA application process as well.

While the steps associated with applying to MBA programs are clearly defined, you may underestimate the time it takes to complete each piece of the application process. If you have a satisfactory score on the GMAT or GRE, you would need to complete the following:

  • School Selection (Including campus visits)
  • Application Essays
  • Resume Review and Completion
  • Recommendation Requests and Completion
  • Application Completion
  • Admissions Interviews

Each of the above steps takes preparation and significant commitment. Consider the essay requirements - each school will have their own set of essays. While some of the content may be transferable, in order to meet the expectations of MBA admissions committees it is best to address each school's essay prompts with a fresh perspective. It may take several weeks to complete one set of essays. An organized, clear plan is necessary in order to meet first round deadlines. Have you set your completion goals according to your timeline?
